Girls Day 2019: the next generation of form developers

Hirschaid, 10.04.2019 – The nationwide Girls’ Future Day took place on 28.03.2019. This year, a total of 5 female participants aged 14 had the opportunity to spend a day as IT specialists at Softway AG. They were given a special insight into the IT sector and the specialist area of SAP® forms development. This is the fourth time in a row that Softway AG has taken part in Girls’ Day.

The girls received intensive support from the two IT specialist trainees for application development. Kristin Neukirch is one of the women who ventured into the IT sector: “I am very happy that I decided to train at Softway AG. There are many opportunities open to me here to specialize as an IT specialist. In addition to the specialist knowledge imparted, this company particularly promotes a sense of community and team spirit. This mixture makes Softway a dream employer for me,” enthuses the 21-year-old.

After a tour of the company and an introduction to all employees, the participants were given an overview of the tasks and sub-areas of an IT specialist for application development at Softway AG. By means of small exercises using the ABAP programming language, the girls were already able to write their first program. Over lunch with colleagues, many curious questions about the new career field were answered.

“It was a great and really exciting day for me. The schedule was really well organized, there was never a dull moment and I really liked the informal environment at Softway. I didn’t expect that we would learn the basics of programming so quickly. I’m sure there’s still a long way to go to become an application developer, but I can now imagine a career in the IT industry much better than I could this morning,” reveals Sophie Seelmann, student and participant in Girls’ Day 2019.

Softway AG uses this day of action to present itself as a potential employer in the region and at the same time counteracts the shortage of skilled workers and gender stereotypes in the IT sector. Softway has been fulfilling its socially responsible role as an IHK training company for 20 years.
