From trainee to trainer

10 questions for Kristin Neukirch – In our column “10 questions for…” we would like to introduce the employees of Softway AG. Today it’s the turn of our colleague and trainer Kristin Neukirch.

Education

“Softway AG is characterized above all by its family environment. My colleagues became friends a long time ago.”

1. When did you start working at Softway AG & how did you come to Softway AG?

After graduating from high school, I started studying applied computer science. After just a few semesters, however, I realized that a 100% theoretical course was not for me. That’s when I started to find out about alternatives. I came across Softway AG and applied straight away. I had my interview with the project manager at the time, Frank, now better known as our CEO. The interview was relaxed and I immediately liked Softway. After a one-week internship, I was invited to the company’s summer party on the last day and was thus able to celebrate a successful debut.

2. Which training path did you take?

Even though my studies in applied computer science didn’t really work out, I realized during this time that I would like to work in the IT sector later on and that I really enjoy programming. The problem with a completely theoretical degree course is, how could it be otherwise, that it is 100% theoretical. With this in mind, I started looking for an apprenticeship to bring me closer to real-life practice. During my research, I came across Softway AG and have been working there ever since.

3. What do I need to bring with me as an apprentice if I want to work as an IT specialist in application development?

For training as an IT specialist in application development, an interest in technical innovations, fun at work and an independent way of working are particularly important. We are always on the lookout for curious and committed applicants! A further requirement is at least a secondary school leaving certificate or a vocational baccalaureate.

4. This or that?

5. What fascinates you about your job?

What fascinates me about my job are the daily challenges that always demand something new from me. As a developer, you have to be flexible and constantly adapt to changing requirements, different projects and innovations in coding. No two days are the same and that’s what makes the job so fascinating. It never gets boring with us!

6. Let’s travel back in time: What did you always want to be when you were younger?

I always wanted to be a vet, which is why I chose Latin at school and did my Latinum.

7. What does a typical working day look like for you? What tasks are you responsible for?

My work is very varied, as already mentioned in question 4. One important area is training at Softway AG. In this area, I support my trainees, have regular appointments, plan the content of the training and constantly try to improve it.

I am also responsible for the workshops offered by Softway AG. I am responsible for revising and translating the courses, implementing new developments and adapting the design. We have an internal task force for this, which I can coordinate with and in which we divide the tasks among ourselves.

Finally, I also work for our customers. Here I develop directly on the systems, create forms, make changes and have meetings and training sessions to share the know-how. All in all, no two days are the same and I’m happy about every bit of knowledge and every experience I gain.

8. How do you deal with a stressful day at work? What helps you relax after work?

On stressful days, I like to go to the gym after work to really work out and clear my head. In summer, I like to lie in the sun by the Main, a river very close to me, and in winter, in keeping with the cliché, I like to sit at my computer and play games with my friends. Finding a balance to my mainly sedentary job is very important.

9. How would you describe the work & the team at Softway AG? What characterizes Softway AG?

Softway AG is characterized above all by its family environment. My colleagues became friends a long time ago and we also do a lot together in our private lives. This means we can all pull together and work together much better in a professional environment.

10. We would also like to know more about you in your private life. What do you particularly enjoy doing in your free time? Do you have any “special” hobbies?

I don’t have any particular hobbies. I like playing games on the PC with friends, being outdoors in nature and spending time at the gym. But the most important thing to me is my family.
